With the climate doom-and-gloom of the upcoming COP31 climate conference just around the corner, Friends of Science Society is pleased to present an in-person or livestream event, Why You Should No Longer Fear Global Warming aka “Climate Change,” presented by meteorologist and author, Anthony Watts. The event will take place in Calgary on Nov. 16, 2026, at 7 pm, at the Coast Calgary University Area Hotel by APA – 1804 Crowchild Trail NW, Calgary, Alberta. Free parking on site or take the LRT/C-train. Early bird ticket rates available now. Join Friends of Science Society – become a member and get the membership ticket discount, or free livestream access!

In 2006, meteorologist Anthony Watts founded “Watts Up With That?” (WUWT), a blog dedicated to exploring climate and energy stories that were not being presented in the mainstream press. According to their website, “WUWT has grown into the most widely read climate website in the world — with over 600-million-page views and contributions from scientists, engineers, statisticians, and independent researchers across dozens of countries.”

In 2011, Watts and others published an influential paper about the surface temperature monitoring stations, exposing the poor siting of many, which would lead to distorted temperature readings due to urban heat island or other influences. One of Watts co-authors was atmospheric scientist Roger Pielke, Sr., father of climate policy analyst, Roger Pielke, Jr. who has been pivotal in exposing the misuse of climate scenarios – especially the infamous RCP 8.5.

WUWT offers the public a selection of plain language and highly scientific information and news about climate and energy, based on evidence, not ideology.

The content of Friends of Science Society’s event will be timely, too, taking place in the midst of COP 31, which will be held in Antalya, Türkiye, from 9 to 20 November 2026.

A pre-COP conference is taking place in Fiji from Oct. 5-8, 2026. Fiji’s Environment and Climate Change Minister, the Hon. Lynda Tabuya, claims that “Exceeding the 1.5°C limit is a moral failure that condemns frontline nations like Fiji to an unthinkable future.”

Anthony Watts will calmly wash all such fears away.

Watts will present twenty-five climate topics grouped into four sections – Extreme Weather, Climate Impacts, Science & Models, and What We Were Told Was Wrong.

His presentation will draw on official climate datasets from NOAA, NASA, IPCC, and the EPA.

Extreme Weather – Watts agrees that climate change is real, but he argues that today’s temperatures are still cooler than most of the peaks of the past 6,000 years. He will work through the extreme weather data for hurricanes, U.S. heatwaves, tornadoes, weather-related deaths, drought, and floods to argue that none show a worsening trend.

Climate Impacts – Watts examines climate impacts such as sea level rise, Arctic ice, polar bears, coral, global greening, snowpack, and wildfires, concluding these systems are stable or improving according to actual data.

Science & Models – In the science section, Watts challenges the reliability of climate models versus observed temperatures. He will explain and discuss the urban heat island contamination of temperature records. Other topics include CO2‘s diminishing warming effect, the Sun’s role in climate change, and El Niño’s natural contribution to recent warming. Watts also pushes back on the “97% consensus” framing.

What We Were Told Was Wrong – In the closing section, Watts revisits failed past predictions such as the 1989 UN climate-refugee forecast, Pacific island “sinking” claims, ocean acidification framing, and he ends with the latest headline news: the IPCC/CMIP7 extreme scenario RCP 8.5, used in climate models, was retired as being “implausible” in April 2026.

Watts wraps it up with the “bottom line” – you should no longer fear global warming or climate change; the data supports calm, rational confidence in the future rather than fear.

Meanwhile, Canada is planning to open the door to international carbon trading under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and to build out a carbon (dioxide) removal industry. Watts’ presentation and Friends of Science Society’s 24 years of climate insights show this is an expensive fool’s errand – as one Friends of Science Society’s contributors writes, “The Green Manifesto is not Science “Human Emissions of Carbon Dioxide Are Not Causing Catastrophic Climate Change… They Are Beneficial.“
